It is known as the Red Devils, Red Devils, as well as abbreviations of their name, like Manchester Utd, Man United, Man Utd, United and MUFC. In many places it is referred to as "Manchester" or simply as the "UNITED" so that the vast majority of fans, [3] due to recent large projection only global rival Manchester City. You must make it clear that for the vast majority of fans who know the history of the club, Man U is a pejorative term, since its origin dates from the time of the Munich disaster when fans of other teams created songs extolling the tragedy and fact that several players are deceased.

Initially a club average expression in English football, has a history of achievements confused with the trajectory of long-lived two coaches for the team, both Scots, both graced with the title Sir after making the club to conquer Europe: Matt Busby (who coached United from 1945 to 1969, plus a small period December 1970 to early summer 1971) and Alex Ferguson (commander of the team since November 1986).

[Edit] History

Billy Meredith. [Edit] InícioFoi founded in 1878 as Newton Heath L & YR Football Club, and the team of workers from the Lancashire and Yorkshire deposit of Railway in the district of Newton Heath. Entered, along with other team from Manchester, some Ardwick AFC to the English Football League in 1892, changing its name next year to just Newton Heath Football Club.

The name Manchester United Football Club came only in 1902 when the team on the verge of bankruptcy, was able to restructure itself with investments of John Henry Davies, a businessman who bought the brewery team, being its president until his death in 1927. Davies was the suggestion to change the uniform: green and gold, who shared the shirt, [7] were replaced by red and white. In season 1905/06, the new team has succeeded in promoting itself to the First Division.

Taking advantage of a punishment imposed on the city's other team, former Ardwick (which since 1893 had come to be called Manchester City), who were paying their players wages above the ceiling imposed by the English Football Association, the United first provoked a clash with the club that would rival: it hired some of the players, suspended until the new year of 1907. Among them, the highlight of the City, the "Welsh wizard" Billy Meredith. A new achievement in 1911-12 was only in with the second title in the Premiership, this season marked the inauguration of the new field, Old Trafford. However, from there the team went into decline, until he suffered his first relegation in 1922. Promoted again in 1925, falling back in 1931.

To decay in time, joined the rival Manchester City, in a situation not much better, to veto the inclusion of a third team from the city in the English league: Manchester Central club emerged from the same City of dissidents, disgusted with the output of this East Side stadium after losing his spot in a fire. Despite popular support for the Central, United and City have managed to impose his veto and the new team closed its doors in 1932 [8].

Statue of Sir Matt Busby.O United, alternating in the 1930's rises and falls between the first and second division, manages to remain in the elite during the 1938-39 season. After it, the championship was interrupted by World War II.

[Edit] The era Busby 1945, at the end of the war, a former Scottish player who had participated in conflict and known among football lovers in the city to have played for Manchester City arrives to take over as coach. Matt Busby came not only to limit yourself to give tactical instructions to the cast, but to participate in the recruitment of new players and personally directing the training, a task hitherto usually done only by the board. His first signing is not a player, but an assistant, a former Welsh player who had known the war: Jimmy Murphy.

The results appear soon: the first postwar edition of the championship, that of 1946-47, United finished second, just one point behind champions Liverpool. The next season, new deputy in the league title and FA Cup, the first important trophy that the club win the English title since 1911. The third in the league is vice consecutively, and another is taken in 1951. Until the 1951-52 season, United were back to being English champions after 51 years.

Jimmy Murphy. [Edit] Busby Babes

Matt BusbyApesar the title, the club would stay away from him for four seasons. It was then that Busby and Murphy coordinated the rise of a young generation in the cast. The squad, with a mean age of 22 years, would haunt the country to regain the championship in the 1955-56 season. [9] Dubbed Busby Babes, "Busby's Babies", the crop marks 103 goals in the process and make the United the first English club to compete in the newly created UEFA Champions League in season 1956-57, which won the national bi. In the European tournament, only stopped in the semifinals, the title holder and dominant force on the continent, the Real Madrid of Alfredo di Stefano. Dennis Viollet ends competition as top scorer with nine goals.

Accredited to participate for the second consecutive edition of the Champions League due to the English championship, the team has to charter a plane to be able to compete in national tournaments Pareles with the European. [10] Then, on February 6, 1958, a case of greatest tragedies related to football: the trip back to England after achieving a qualifying time for the semifinals of the Champions League into a 3 x 3 in Belgrade against Red Star (previously defeated at Old Trafford for 2 x 1), plane that takes players and technical team makes a stop in Munich, West Germany. The aircraft can take off only at the third attempt, to then fall over the fence of the airport and disintegrate in an uninhabited house. [10]

Of the players dead, four had reached the England squad: the celebrated Duncan Edwards, considered the great crash of the cast, Tommy Taylor, Roger Byrne and David Pegg. Another, Liam Whelan, has also played for his selection, the Irish. The accident also requires two other players finish their careers: Johnny Berry, also from England, and Jackie Blanchflower, from Northern Ireland.

Headlines about the technical acidente.O Busby is one of the most seriously wounded, having received the last rites twice, [10] but survives as well as Bobby Charlton, Dennis Viollet, Bill Foulkes and Harry Gregg.

[Edit] Reconstruction continentalMurphy and glory, that the flight was not fatal compromises with the Welsh squad, which commanded the day before the playoff match against Israel, which ranked selected for the 1958 World Cup, is to lead the interim United. Can you make the team in shambles reach the final of the FA Cup, lost to Bolton Wanderers. In the semifinal of the Champions Cup, the team is eliminated by the Italians from Milan.

Back to Busby, United can be runner-up English in the first season after the accident, that of 1958-59. At the beginning of the decade that follows, ordering the hiring of Denis Law, who had called the Scotland squad for the brief moment when he trained alongside his country in the second half of 1958, and authorizes the coming of George Best, discovered by a scout club in Northern Ireland. [11] Both arrive in 1963 and soon participate in the FA Cup title, the first team after Munich. The next season, accomplished by placing second in the Premiership.

In the 1964-65 edition, the title is won in acirradíssima dispute with Leeds United. After a tie in number of points, wins, draws and losses, the trophy is decided on goal average, the ratio of the number of goals scored by goals conceded. The season marks the beginning of the rivalry with Leeds, where he plays Jack Charlton, Bobby's brother: the two teams will also face an FA Cup semifinal at two games quite a pounding, and the ranking of their opponents with a goal came just 44 minutes the the second half of the match back. Back in the Champions League the following season as champions, the Red prioritize the European tournament, becoming only the fourth in English. Cup, the United faces in the quarter-finals of the mighty Benfica Eusebius, Column, and Jose Torres. After 2 x 1 at Old Trafford, the team can do the classification after 5 x 1 at full Stadium of Light in masterful performance from Best, author of three goals, two of them in the first twelve minutes. [12]

In the 1960s, this trio, representing three of the four nations of the UK, led the United: in order, Northern Ireland's George Best, Denis Law and the Scottish Englishman Sir Bobby Charlton (United Trinity statue, standing out of Old Trafford).

Tribute to Manchester United players killed in the Munich air disaster in the year 1958Pelas semifinals, the team returns to Yugoslavia to make another game in Belgrade, this time against Partizan, which eliminates. In the following season, 1966-67, the team has come back to focus only on the Premiership and is champion again. Again accredited to represent England later in the Champions League, United were looking to get both trophies, English and European. The league, however, is lost by two points from rivals Manchester City.

The disappointment is overcome with the Red Devils, the team's nickname since the beginning of the decade and has already incorporated the distinctive, winning a decision in the Champions League encounter with Eusebius and the other Portuguese Benfica. In Wembley, the game ends in 1 x 1 in normal time and United is scathingly three goals in overtime, becoming the first Englishman to lift the most important European club trophy. With the feat in the turbulent year in which completed ten of the plane crash, Queen Elizabeth II granted the title of Sir Busby [10].

Later that year, George Best (author of the team's third goal in the final) becomes the third player in the squad to receive the Golden Ball France Football's after Denis Law (in 1964) and Bobby Charlton (1966; author of the first two), but the Intercontinental Cup is lost to the Argentine Estudiantes La Plata.

Following the end of the first half of 1969, that United is only in 11th place in the Premiership while rival Leeds won for the first time after three vice-championships followed, Busby decided to resign as coach, which had occupied for twenty and four years. His successor, former player on the team in the 1950s Wilf McGuinness (who was not in Munich because of injury), do not get along, and Busby back to lead the team in December 1970, definitely leaving at the end of the season 1970 - 71 to become a member of the leadership of the club. When he left, as United was one of four teams that had won more national championship, with seven titles matched Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool, and is the only English European champions. Before Busby, the club was only placed ninth in the ranking of winners of the championship.

[Edit] New decadênciaCom aged Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and idem plagued by injuries and George Best of alcoholism, the team does not come out of the slump. Law and Charlton left the club in the middle of 1973, Best makes his final game for the club in January 1 of next year. Without the trio Busby, the club finished the 1973-74 season in the penultimate sadly, relegated to the Second Division for the first time in almost forty years. The humiliation is greater by the fall have been enacted in defeat in the derby against City, who won by 1 x 0 with a goal of Law, on the verge of retirement at the rival. The only conclusion is granting the title of Sir Charlton, because while the team was demoted, the title stayed with rivals Leeds.

Bryan Robson, captain between 1982 and 1994.This team will soon return to the elite by winning the Premiership in 1975, and to the delight of the crowd, sees Leeds controversially lost the final of the UEFA Champions League, but she does not see the Red Devils regain strength before. In the first season back in division rival Manchester City sees the fight for the title with Liverpool winning ending. This team, which had already been champion in the previous edition of the Premier League (and also in 1973, being then ten titles and isolated leader of the British winners), competed alongside the UEFA Champions League title by this precedent. He advances in European competition and is getting close to what United had failed: to be champion of both tournaments simultaneously. Hence the rivalry between the Reds and Red Devils, who extrapolate the contentions of each City entertainment. Liverpool can be English champions and reach the final of the Champions League, the same with the FA Cup. Determined to prevent an even greater novelty, a triple achievement of this new rival, a United downhill wins by 2 x Liverpool on Jan. 1 rise in the decision of the FA Cup.

The liverpuldianos four days later, however, can be the second team to bring the European Cup to England and, besides, are two of the tournament the following season. The rivalry over the Liverpool only increases with the continued success of the neighbor, who comes to dominate the scene once with eight other national titles until 1990, and win back the Champions League in 1981 and 1984. The other team from the nearby town of Liverpool, Everton, who is shown as early as the 1980s, as the main antagonist to the new force. In addition, two other English teams also win the Champions Cup: Nottingham Forest also the tiny surpasses United to get it twice, in addition to Aston Villa, which also equaled the Devils earlier in number of league titles in 1981.

Mark Hughes.O United, in turn, raises a bit of lost respect by winning two FA Cup in 1983 and 1985, with Busby as president of the club [10] and Ron Atkinson as manager. Bryan Robson, Paul McGrath and Norman Whiteside and striker Mark Hughes are the idols of the moment, although still unable to overcome the glorious trio Law-Charlton-Best. While intercity rivalry with Liverpool intensifies, with the Leeds weakens, with this team through the decade in the second division.

In December 1986, with United again threatened reabaixamento, however, Atkinson is sacked. In its place comes the coach of the Scotland squad at the World Cup that year and who had recent success as manager of Aberdeen in the early to lead the team to three titles in the Scottish championship in eight years in a polarized by traditional Celtic League and Rangers, plus the European Cup Winners' Cup trophy in 1983 and Super Cup.

[Edit] The era FergusonAntes his arrival, United had seven Premier League titles, is just the fifth major tournament winner, matched to Aston Villa, and behind eight victories from Arsenal and Everton's rivals Liverpool and sixteen (the last three subsequently win four more, once and twice, respectively). Twenty years later, the club decacadente living off past glories would still counting only titles in the championship, eleven new trophies, and its biggest winner, matched his rival Liverpool and the difference with Manchester City more than tripled. Would become a worldwide brand and richest club in the world [13].

Alex Ferguson arrives already imposing discipline that characterizes and manages to make the United end the season safely in 11. For next season, orders to bring his native Scotland striker Brian McClair and goalkeeper Jim Leighton, and Steve Bruce. The team can finish second. The satisfaction is not complete for the title have been with rival Liverpool, nine points ahead.

Peter Schmeichel.O United, however, no hitches, even with the return of Hughes from the outside. Ferguson only enjoying his first title as coach of the club in 1990, winning the FA Cup in the final against Crystal Palace after turbulent season that was close to resignation after a humiliating defeat in the derby x 5 against the City.

The Cup title qualifies the team to compete in the European Cup Winners Cup in season 1990-91, when the team is sixth in the Premiership, now with new offspring as Denis Irwin, Paul Ince, Lee Sharpe and Ryan Giggs, the Welshman a young Ferguson discovered that the base of the rival City three years before and immediately brought to Old Trafford.

The team arrives at the decision of the second European trophy in importance. Ahead, the favorite Barcelona then Spanish champions, Ronald Koeman, Michael Laudrup, Julio Salinas and Ion Andoni Goikoetxea. The Red Devils win by 2 x 1, with two goals from veteran Hughes. Ferguson promises that next season will come the long awaited English title.

Andriy Kančelskis.Para it come two new idols future: of Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, the then Soviet Union, Ukrainian midfielder Andriy Kančelskis of Lithuanian origin, who is better known as Andrei Kanchelskis. The team that wins in November tirateima with the champion of the Champions Cup (Red Star) in the European Super Cup, first won the English League Cup and leads much of the new league, but it gets the title with rival Leeds United back in the top division for two years, rekindling the rivalry between the United.

[Edit] Domain in the Premier League and Doubles

Éric Cantona.A season later, in 1992-93, marking the first edition of the new format of the tournament, whose elite division, now called the Premier League. The team started poorly in the new league, occupying only a tenth place in November. Everything changes with the arrival of Eric Cantona, coming precisely from Leeds. The French make great partnership with Kančelskis [14] (now Russian) and Hughes and, after twenty-six years, the English champion United is again, the first under the new format. Ferguson is named the Coach of the Year for the first time.

The next was even better: with Cantona and Kančelskis large stage, the team succeeded for the first time called the double, the double wins in the league and FA Cup, won in a landslide this by 4 to 0 against Chelsea. Was also marked by the coming of another future idol, Irishman Roy Keane, and the output of another of the past, Bryan Robson, who was captain of the cast for twelve years. Very different was the following: missing the French, who took a long suspension after attacking fan opponent in the match against Crystal Palace, and Kančelskis through injury, [14] The League was lost in the last round in a tie in with 1 x 1 West Ham United and the title remained with the turbocharged Blackburn Rovers. A decision by the FA Cup, the title was lost to Everton.

Paul Scholes.

Ryan himself Giggs.Para Kančelskis Everton, after recovering, would surprisingly though, after a fight with Ferguson. [14] Who would take its place on the team would be David Beckham, since 1993 the team, which also already had Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and brothers Gary and Phil Neville. Initially, however, young people would receive nothing affectionate nickname of Fergie's fledglings, the "inexperienced Fergie." Another was to walk out Hughes, sold to Chelsea. United, which came to be fourteen points behind Newcastle United in the edition that followed the League, was resurrected with the return of Cantona's suspension. The advantage was reversed and a new double came with flavor: the decision of the FA Cup was against rivals Liverpool, which then decays. The title came with a simple 1 x 0 with a goal from French, in addition, the club reached the second position in the rank of grand champion, equaled the Arsenal, with ten victories for each.

The season that followed, that of 1996-97, ended with the fourth Premier League title in five editions of it and with United overcoming Arsenal, adding the eleventh premiership won. However, after her Cantona decides to retire. The team had reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, the new name of the old Champions Cup, being eliminated by eventual winners Borussia Dortmund, Germany. The following season, the team, missing the leadership of Cantona, eventually lost the English title for Arsenal, who both left again matched in number of titles in the league. The London club and their coach that had arrived that season, Arsene Wenger, would begin a period of rivalry with the Mancunian and Ferguson respectively.

=== SCIM) in evening inspired by Roy Keane, [15] author's first goal. The night he was not perfect for taking a yellow card which would suspend the final.

Roy Keane.Decisão against Bayern Munich, which is more incredible still, in stoppage time, substitute Sheringham would tie the match at 1 x 1 against Bayern Munich, and seconds from the end of three minutes additional data by referee Pierluigi Collina, the and Norwegian substitute Ole Gunnar Solskjær also go down in club history to score the upset. The United were champions again the most important European trophy after 33 years. A month later after the mainland conquest, as granted to Matt Busby, the Queen Elizabeth II also honored with the title of Ferguson Sir. The title marked the farewell Idol Schmeichel; The Great Dane had agreed to his transfer to Sporting Lisbon.

At the end of the year, the team would win the first tirateima against South American champion, then known as Club World Cup match in single win by 1 x 0 on the Brazilian team Palmeiras, gol Keane's cross from Giggs advantage, voted best in the game. Thus, the United became the first British world champion.

[Edit] 2000-2006

Ruud van Nistelrooy. No early 2000, the club would again play in a world of clubs, this time to the first conducted by FIFA. The team eliminated in the first phase ended in third. At the end of the first half, the disappointment that might have been is soon replaced by new English title, and another comes without difficulties in 2001, hitting the end of the race to hire Ruud van Nistelrooy, scorer of the future team.

The series was interrupted in 2002 when the team, whose reinforcements Fabien Barthez and Juan Sebastian Veron did not correspond to what was expected, came in third and saw the rival Arsenal, who had endured a trivicecampeonato, secure the title with victory in the penultimate round by 1 x 0 at Old Trafford. That year, after speculation of his retirement, Ferguson got his time in office. In the summer, came defender Rio Ferdinand for a record 30 million pounds in a British transfer, and, to be assistant to Ferguson, the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz. The transfer of Ferdinand was a scandal, for the player to come from rivals Leeds.

Rio Ferdinand.A revenge on the Gunners came to an end of the 2002-03 season, with United counting on the barrage of Van Nistelrooy in the league (the Netherlands had 25 goals in the Premier League - one more than the rival Thierry Henry - and is 15 of them in the last ten matches, getting 44 goals scored in total of the season), [13] [16] were crowned champions after reversing a nine-point advantage that rivals had two months to the end of the tournament. What followed was not so great: the Red Devils, whose negotiations with Ronaldinho to take the place of idol Beckham (Real Madrid ceded) failed [16] were only in third and heading back to Arsenal. In parallel, the United was eliminated in the Champions League by Porto, future champion.

Strengthening Kleberson, who became the first Brazilian in United, coming for his outstanding contribution in the conquest of pentacampeonato world in 2002 by the Brazilian team and to fill the vacancy of Veron (who went to Chelsea), [16] down, and not very best were also first club in the U.S. and Cameroon, respectively goalkeeper Tim Howard and Eric Djembe-Djembe. Another strength, unknown, also the first player from his country club, was given as a promise, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo. Already probed by United, [17] was hired immediately after the insistence of the club's own players after they confronted him (and lost by 1 x 3) in a friendly reopening of the stadium Sporting Lisbon, where he played the Madeira. [18] Six days later, the future best player in the world awarded by FIFA in 2008 has presented the new club, alongside Kleberson [17].

Wayne Rooney.A 2004-05 season still would not see a well geared United: The team that brought the celebrated promise of Everton Wayne Rooney was again third, with the title going to London again, this time for Chelsea awake from the previous season with its purchase by Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich. In the Blues and his coach, Jose Mourinho, Ferguson would see the Reds and new rivals. The feud with Arsenal had their last major chapter in the FA Cup final, lost to the Gunners. The former Liverpool resurgent rival to win the Champions League. Leeds have already played the season in second division and hatred for his fans, via his idol Alan Smith go play the Red Devils after claims he'd be the same with Leeds relegation and that never would play in Manchester. Smith soon became beloved among fans of the Devils.

The next season, 2005-06, would be marked not by titles but by other factors: the purchase of the club by American Malcolm Glazer, the shares that generated protests from fans, some, most exalted, created a new club United of Manchester [19] after considering using "Manchester Central", [8] the reinforcements of Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar (Fulham who came forward to back security in goal for United, [19] absent since the departure of Schmeichel and non-solved with the following holders, Australian Mark Bosnich, French Barthez and Howard), the French defender Patrice Evra and the first Asian and the Serbian club, respectively, the South Korean Park Ji-Sung and Nemanja Vidic, this coming in January, and the output of the idol Roy Keane to Celtic.

[Edit] 2006 -

Edwin van der Sar.Marcadora twenty years of Ferguson at United, 2006-07 season also marked a return to the final success of the previous century. The team began discredited, much depending on the main contract was to spend 18.6 million pounds challenged by Michael Carrick (coming to replace Keane), whereas for 15 million euros, have to dispose of the idol Van Nistelrooy, who left at loggerheads with Ferguson to Real Madrid.

Manchester Unite19] [20] surpris his absence, would the Swede Henrik Larsson, for a short period of three months. In the Champions League, the club held one of the largest heavy defeats in the history of the competition, winning by a 7 x 1 Roma at Old Trafford but was ultimately eliminated by eventual champion AC Milan.

Nemanja Vidić.A Premier League, who last season had been the second straight year with Chelsea, came to be conquered, and so tasty: the title was decided in a victory for x 0 against Manchester City at the stadium of the rival with Van der Sar defending ten minutes to convert the penalty which would prevent the celebration early, all in the previous round of what could be the showdown of the year, the game against the Londoners. The Stamford Bridge club, however, emerged victorious over United in the FA Cup final. As seen the City in the late '90s, fans of United's rivals also see Leeds relegated to the Third Division that season.

2007-08 saw the arrival of four reinforcements would soon be well in time: the Canadian Owen Hargreaves England, the Brazilian Anderson, the Argentine Carlos Tevez and Nani Luso-Cape Verdean who, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sporting Lisbon came unknown. In the increasingly intense struggle against Chelsea, United were able to overcome the new rival twice: in the Premier League, brought back to Old Trafford after a bad start, and the first decision between English clubs in the Champions League. The final marked the breaking of the record of appearances for United, with Ryan Giggs surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton. Giggs had already matched it in style, scoring a goal from the 2 x 0 victory over Wigan Athletic out of the house that secured the English title in the last round. With this, the club started to get just one new title to match the rival Liverpool.

Cristiano Ronaldo.Em his best, which earn him the Golden Ball at the end of the year and after the award of Best Player in the World by FIFA, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (who would become the fourth winner of the France Football award and the first FIFA club, and also the first European Golden Boot for United, with their artillery of 31 goals in the league - in total this season were 44 goals in 49 games) opened the scoring in the final opponent later tied by Capt. Frank Lampard. In the penalty shootout, Ronaldo went from hero to villain after charging ridiculously easy to make defense to Petr Čech. United have been a penalty of defeat, saving themselves with the error from defender John Terry. In his record-breaking night, then leave the United Giggs at an advantage, since the charges alternate. The kick the kicker next opponents, the Frenchman Nicolas Anelka, bumped into the defense of the new hero, Van der Sar, giving the Red Devils their third title in the tournament. For the fans, the taste was even better because the opponent had supported other rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City before.

In December, won his second world title, the first in the Club World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Ecuador's LDU Quito of, with a goal from Wayne Rooney after 28 minutes the 2nd time. The match, held even during the 2008-09 season, was the first step of great ambition that the Red Devils had for it, that ten years after the treble, overcome their own brand and win five trophies simultaneously. [21] In championship, FA Cup and Champions League, the other would be secondary to the English League Cup, won in February over Tottenham Hotspur, he had left the strengthening of the hottest season for United, Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgarian player of the first time). The dream of a quintuple possible, however, ended in May, when United crashed on penalties to Everton in the FA Cup semifinals.

If the highest ambition for the season had ended, yet the club had a great satisfaction, in the penultimate round of the Premier League, secured loose her 18th title, equaling the rival Liverpool among the biggest winners in a season with highlights to the revelations Federico Macheda (Italian scored in two straight games the winning goal, helping the team to overcome momentary bad), [22] Jonny Evans and the Da Silva twins, Rafael and Fabio Brazilians. [23] The conquest was sealed with a goalless draw against Arsenal, who had met the day before United in the semifinals of the Champions League. Without the same animosity as before, the old rivals meet for the first time in the tournament [24], and easily surpassed the Mancunian London, qualifying for his second final of the tournament with a win followed by 3 x 1 in full Emirates Stadium.

Title of the Champions League final 2007-08A would be against Barcelona and is a great tirateima between the two best players in the world: Cristiano Ronaldo and star opponent, Lionel Messi. In the United listless night, the Spanish team and their Argentine playmaker gave up best: he made one of the goals of the victory by 2 x 0 of the Catalan team, making the Red Devils lost their unbeaten record of twenty-five games in the competition and had unbeaten in any international tournament final in its history. [25] The match ended up being the last game of Ronaldo at the club: two weeks later, the idol got his transfer to Real Madrid, who have assailed him before.

Dissatisfied with the book club, Tevez also came to withdraw from the club, going to rival Manchester City. Among the hires were hired Gabriel Obertan Bordeaux, Antonio Valencia of Wigan and Ecuador squad player Michael Owen and the big surprise, coming from Newcastle and former Idol rival Liverpool. Owen had his big moment to tie a derby against City of Tevez on 52 minutes into the second half, leaving the match in 4 x 3.

The duels against City in flames during the season, making Ferguson to take the unusual decision to escalate in the League Cup holders England, when the team faces local rival. The City won the first leg with two goals from Tevez, who leads the former team. In the return game as United opens 2 x 0 and Tevez sees a certain decline. Rooney, chief protagonist again United's brand in injury and seals the red rating. In other World Cup, the FA Cup, the rivalry resurfaces briefly with Leeds, which is the first time Ferguson try an elimination tournament for the third stage and a lower division club [26].

This new rivalry surfaced occasionally in the 2007-08 season, the league champion Manchester United was only in the last round after round of intense bidding round. And week after both teams had the greatest duel in the history of both clubs, when faced in the final of the Champions League. Decided in a dramatic penalty shootout that featured the collections of desperídico idols on each side, Cristiano Ronaldo and John Terry, the European trophy to Old Trafford was the third time after the error of the Blues striker Nicolas Anelka, a former player of the rival Arsenal, Liverpool and City.
